Centralised warehouse in Hille-Hartum
The new logistics centre will stock products from all three BERNSTEIN divisions – switches, sensors and enclosures. Finished products will be collected from BERNSTEIN’s production facilities in Porta Westfalica-Hausberge and Neesen on a daily basis and stored in the new logistics centre, together with the goods produced in Hartum. Customers and subsidiaries all over the world will be supplied from Hille-Hartum in the future.
The aim of the new logistics centre is to increase productivity through an efficient allocation of resources, to create more transparency and to optimise operational procedures. A new warehouse management software system has been installed to ensure operations at the new centre run smoothly and the centralised dispatch handling capability in the new logistics centre means the support of an external provider is no longer necessary.
At 1000 m², the new centre provides 1060 pallet spaces and more than 3000 lower shelf spaces. A paternoster (rotating shelf system) has been installed to maximise the space and generous picking and packing areas, as well as modern loading ramps, simplify the workflow to facilitate an efficient delivery process. The modern construction methods used in the building will ensure the new centre is energy-efficient as well as cost-effective.
1000 m² additional production area
In addition to the construction of the new logistics centre, a further 1000 m² area located on the same site has been purpose built for the production of enclosures. BERNSTEIN will use this facility to develop its enclosure technology for housing different applications, as well as its modern and variable suspension systems.
A wide range of aluminium and polyester terminal boxes will be produced at the new facility and BERNSTEIN will be investigating the possibility of offering a complete wired and switched industrial and control enclosure to complete its product portfolio.
As well as storing finished products, BERNSTEIN’s Hartum facility also stores the raw materials that are necessary for the production of enclosures, providing the company with an additional 2400 pallet spaces.
BERNSTEIN ensures production at Hartum is optimised with clear process structures, documentation and barcode controlled material flow to ensure short delivery intervals and a high level of product availability for its customers.
The production of a new aluminium control enclosure series, which was launched at the leading professional exhibition for electric automation, SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg in November 2013, will start in spring 2014 at the new premises.
